Lakeside life, nature, and an Italian summer vibe at Lake Maggiore
Oggebbio is a small, charming town on Lake Maggiore, where you’ll find peace and quiet, natural beauty, and authentic Italian charm. The town has four restaurants and a small grocery store within walking distance, and just 10 km away lies the port town of Verbania, with several shops, cafés, and a lively harbor atmosphere.
Here, you’re close to both nature and culture. The Val Grande National Park, Italy’s largest wilderness area, lies just beyond Oggebbio and offers beautiful hiking trails. The lake is perfect for boat trips, water sports, and swimming, and a visit to the famous Borromean Islands with their impressive palaces and gardens is an experience not to be missed. For golf enthusiasts, there are four courses in the area, including the Golf Club des Iles Borromees near Stresa.
About the apartment
The apartment is located on the sixth floor of a vacation complex and is spread over two levels. It features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a living room. The smallest room on the first floor has two single beds that are currently pushed together to form a double bed. The living room opens onto a balcony with a fantastic view of Lake Maggiore.
The apartment is equipped with both a washing machine and a dishwasher, so you can easily do your laundry and make your daily routine easier while on vacation.
Please note that there are many stairs outside the building, which makes the apartment less suitable for people with mobility issues. However, there is an elevator inside the building that goes up to the sixth floor.
As a guest at the complex, you have access to a range of shared facilities: a beautiful botanical garden, two swimming pools, two tennis courts, and a historic mansion featuring a bar, billiards, common rooms, and space for games and socializing. (The pools are open from June 1 through the third Sunday in September.)
Location and Transportation
The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa (about 1 hour and 15 minutes) and Lugano Airport (about 1.5 hours). We recommend renting a car, as this gives you the greatest freedom to explore both Lake Maggiore and the surrounding towns.

The apartment is located in a beautiful area with its own recreational area by the lake and a charming little town just up a flight of stairs behind the apartment complex, from which several hiking trails begin. Groceries can be purchased at the town’s small kiosk, and the restaurant features a lovely terrace overlooking the lake.
The apartment offers a fantastic view of the lake, and there are several attractions in the area accessible by car.
We visited Oggebio for the second time, and it was just as magnificent as our first vacation here. There were six of us adults in the apartment, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The view from the balcony is truly unique. The kitchen is well-equipped, and the beds are comfortable. By the lake, there’s a lovely pool, table tennis, and tennis courts. We brought paddleboards and paddled on the beautiful lake, where we also swam often. There are a couple of nice restaurants within walking distance, and we shopped at the small grocery store. There are markets in the neighboring towns: Verbania on Saturday and Cannobio on Sunday. (It can be difficult to find parking)
We will definitely be back because of the view, the lake, and the friendly people in Oggebio.
Beautiful views and plenty of space. We enjoyed the pool and swimming in the lake, and played tennis several times. It was easy to reserve one of the two courts (clay and synthetic turf) using the sign-up sheet in the gatehouse. We’d love to come back. Next time we’ll bring our SUP/paddleboards, since there’s a place to “park” them down by the lake. Great trips also to the glacier at Macugnaga (1.5 hours) and the viewpoint in the hinterland above Cannero (0.5 hours—stop by Restaurant Usignolo on the way down).
A truly lovely, spacious apartment with a truly fantastic view. The location and surrounding area aren’t ideal for those with mobility issues, and a car is a must for getting around to the many small towns along the lake. Groceries are best purchased in Verbania (Esselunga), which is a large supermarket similar to a “Bilka,” though most smaller towns also have plenty of specialty shops. Must-sees include Stresa and the Borromean Islands, Villa Tanranto, and a local market—perhaps in Cannobio.
A lovely apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Beautiful views from the terrace.
Very narrow streets and many stairs leading up to the apartment.
A cozy little bar above the apartment, as well as a good and inexpensive pizzeria.
Our third visit to the apartment. This time we “discovered” two new great restaurants, in addition to the one located just up the stairs leading into town.
Ristorante Pizzeria Lago is located on Via Nazionale, within walking distance of the apartment (serves fish, meat, and pizza)
I Filari – Ristorante Piemontese, located in Ghiffa. Fantastic food and fantastic red wine from their own vineyard, sold by the bottle for €7 / €14 in the restaurant. The vineyard is open to visitors—it’s located near Alessandria.
A lovely, spacious apartment with a beautiful view from the terrace and plenty of room.
It’s great to have two bathrooms.
A charming town with a restaurant right above and a local grocery store.
A nice playground by the pool and the swimming pier.
A lovely apartment in a great location. The pool area by the lake is also lovely. The lake has clean water and is perfect for swimming. A car is a must.
Pros:
The view and the terrace in general.
Spacious apartment with 2 bathrooms
The pool area is excellent.
Excellent pizzeria “in the backyard” with great food at reasonable prices.
Cons:
Lots and lots of stairs (and the elevator didn’t work every day).
Poor access and a very winding road up to the apartment.
Overall:
You need a car to get the most out of your stay.
Good hiking trails nearby. (Check the route before you start, as signage is lacking).
Do your major grocery shopping in the neighboring towns, as the small grocery store in town overcharges and provides relatively poor customer service.
Have fun and enjoy your vacation 🙂
We enjoyed the view, the location, and the apartment
Stunning views. A large balcony where you can really relax. Air conditioning or another form of cooling in the summer would be a plus. There’s a small grocery store and a restaurant with a view on the road behind the house. If you’re looking for more city life, cafes, and shops, you’ll need to drive to the nearest town, Verbania.
Once you’ve crossed the busy main road, you’ll arrive at the lovely pool and lake area with many beautiful hydrangeas, which belong to the apartment. Here you’ll find a small playground, a ping-pong table, a vending machine with cold and hot drinks, a changing room with a shower, and comfortable lounge chairs.
A nice, spacious vacation apartment with a fantastic view, just like in the photo. There are plenty of stairs to climb to reach the building housing the vacation apartment, and it’s quite a long way down to the area with the swimming pool and dock, where you also have to cross a busy road along the way. There’s a charming neighborhood right behind the vacation apartment (including a great pizzeria), and if you keep walking up through the town, you’ll also find some beautiful hiking trails.
A really nice apartment in a great location. The view from the terrace is phenomenal, and the comfortable chairs and cushions on the terrace are a big plus. Lovely pool area and garden by the lake, where the tennis courts are also located.
Nice rooms and great to have two bathrooms.
Many good restaurants and hiking trails in the area. You should have a car to take full advantage of what the area has to offer.
